Toneelgroep Maastricht (NL)
In Emma, the audience experiences a day in the life of the employees at the Emma shoe factory. It seems like an ordinary day, but with the actors from Toneelgroep Maastricht (Maastricht Theatre Group), the singing shoemakers in the Emma factory, and the arrival of a brass band and dancers, this seemingly ordinary day turns into an extraordinary one set in the Emma shoe factory in Brunssum.
The Emma shoe factory was founded 87 years ago by Stichting FSI. It was the first social workplace in the Netherlands, offering a new job to injured labourers who could no longer work in the mines. The factory makes and sells safety shoes around the world, regarded by many to be the best of their kind. The performance by Toneelgroep Maastricht is in celebration of the 100th anniversary of FSI. At the same time, this unique and musical theatre performance directed by Servé Hermans also bids farewell to the old Emma factory, which will relocate to Kerkrade in late 2018. This is an absolute must-see for all Limburg natives and theatre lovers.
